“I first came to the Western Mountains Alliance in the spring of 2008 as a practicum student to fulfill my requirement as a Community Health major at the University of Maine at Farmington. My first big project was to write an article on energy audits for The Advocate, WMA’s newsletter. This project allowed me to gain more experience in journalism, a growing interest of mine, while also learning more about a topic I became very interested in -the farm community. After my practicum was over, WMA hired me part time to help around the office. |
I helped coordinate legislative caucuses, updated databases, worked on communications and marketing for events and helped with the production of the local foods directory. Working with WMA has been very enjoyable and a great experience. Tanya and Tricia are amazing women and I’ll miss them very much. Working at WMA has allowed me to make connections with local businesses, farmers and other key players in the community, to learn skills that will be useful for any job in the future and has allowed me to meet amazing people.” - Emily Weston
Casey
Casey Brackett is the University of Maine at Farmington student who worked with us in 2006 on projects and communications. Casey brought to the Alliance her confidence, intelligence, good humor and an array of skills, which proved indispensable during the implementation stage of the Eat Smart-Eat Local Conference. She also developed the Eat Smart Eat Local tee shirt fundraising campaign. We will miss Casey's sunny enthusiasm and adventurous spirit and wish her every success in her future work in social advocacy and art. Many thanks Casey, and fare thee well!
